Crafting

Schemas come from chests and from eight of the merchants. Click any to see what it makes and the exact materials it needs.

How crafting works

Crafting is forging at an anvil, and forging is a minigame. A cursor sweeps across a bar dotted with hit points; you strike as it crosses them. Each schema sets its own difficulty — how many points there are, how narrow they are, and how fast the cursor moves.

How well you play decides what comes out. A clean forge gives the item Sturdy, and Sharp if it is a bladed weapon. A bad one gives Fragile, Dull, and can saddle it with a weight penalty. Land somewhere in the middle and the item comes out plain.

The further from the middle the result lands, the more of those apply at once: up to two when the forge goes clearly well or badly, three when it goes very well or very badly. On top of that a good forge has its own chance to roll an ordinary positive modifier, and sometimes a second.

Duplicates are not waste. A schema you already have counts as research: the more copies you hold, the fewer materials the recipe takes and the better the odds of an extra positive modifier on what comes out. Five copies is the ceiling, and it is worth reaching.

Percentages are the chance of an extra positive modifier being rolled onto the crafted item, on top of anything the forge itself earns.
